I love volunteering with Transportation Alternatives. Smart people, great mission.

Infrastructure creates results. If all you have are roads, all you’ll see are cars.  If you have sidewalks, you’ll have walkers.  If you have bike lanes and greenways, you’ll have bikers.

I absolutely love being a Transportation Alternatives volunteer. Friday night I helped out with bike valet parking at East River Park for the Summer Stage event and was back at it bright and early Saturday morning for Summer Streets. Giving up your weekend is a lot easier when it’s to help promote biking, walking and public transportation. Ride on!

Mind-blowing discovery of the day: The new Duane Reade at 72nd and Broadway fills growlers for $7.99, and it’s actually good beer.

I received my 500th Duane Reade point last week and will now be cashing in my $5 credit in exchange for a growler and some Six Point IPA.

Two Wheels are Better than Three Trains

I got a call yesterday from Metro NY asking me to comment on the new study from Quinnipiac University that shows that 14% more New Yorkers are biking to work this year compared to 2010.

“Every morning, Erin Lamberty, 24, has a choice: Take three subways to get from her Upper East Side apartment to her advertising job in SoHo or hop on her bike.

She chooses two wheels over a crowded train every time.

“It’s a good way to de-stress at the beginning and end of the day,” she said.”

In short, two wheels are better than three trains for your body and for your mind.

On my roof watching Irene roll in. So creepy how quiet the city is right now.
